Desk Time and Skin Care

Desk Time and Skin Care

There are very few people that don’t spend some time during the week, sitting in front of a computer either at home or work or both.  But not matter your choice of where you spend your screen time, the result is the same: Damage to your skin and overall health over time.

Spending time in front of the computer, or at a desk contributes to the following:

*A decrease in blood flow, that can leave skin overall looking dull and gray.

*The tendency to touch and lean on your face causing oil build-up, blackheads, and acne

*Mindless snacking and overeating, usually on high sodium foods that cause water retention and stomach stress.

*”Concentration face,”— ever seen how you hold your face when you are doing make-up, or other activities that require concentration?  Most fine lines and wrinkles are the result of face actions that we do daily.  Remember when mother said, don’t hold your face like that it will stay that way?!

*Disconnection from people energy.  We are social!  We need the interaction with others for the opportunity to thrive.

So how do you keep your skin and body looking and feeling its best?

*Get a treadmill for your home office, or take a walk or jog around the building at regular intervals.  Do what it takes to get the blood pumping.

*Practice mindfulness, this will keep you from leaning on and touching your face, as well as popping that next handful of Doritos or cheetos into your mouth.

*Keep vitamin healthy snacks around, reduce sodium intake, these include carrots, sweet potatoes, boiled eggs, grapefruit, cherry tomatoes, oranges, apples, bananas, etc…. Your heart and your face will love you.

*Practice relaxing your face during concentrated activities.  This also takes mindfulness, but the results are incredible.

*Above all, close the screen, leave the phone at home (at least one whole day a week,) and head outside.  Plan a lunch with friends, a play date with the kids, or a spa day just for you, (self connection is equally important,) and have fun.  Smile at a stranger and ask them how their day has been.  Remember when we feel good we look good! Go find a reason to feel good!

From my heart to yours with love,
